Kevin Neary Fundraiser
Sunday, January 29th at 4pm
Bowling Tournament
$50 per bowler with teams of 5

For those of you who may not have heard the news last month, Kevin Neary, a former league bowler, was shot in the neck during an attempted robbery in Northern Liberties on November 15th, 2011 and, as a result of that, will likely be paralyzed below the neck for the rest of his life.

On Sunday, January 29th, 2012 at 4pm, North Bowl will be hosting a bowling tournament set up by Huy Pham and John Tracey to help raise funds for Kevin's family. The tournament will be made up of teams of 5. Each bowler will pay $50 to bowl. Huy will be contacting local businesses for donations to be given away as bowling and raffle prizes. We are hoping to get enough teams for two rounds of bowling.

Please, if you would like to participate or would like more information for this tournament email John Tracey at thebowlingguy29@gmail.com with the Subject line: "Kevin Neary Fundraiser". You can also reach Huy Pham at phattiewarbucks@gmail.com.

You can get updates on Kevin's condition given by his family at http://www.kevinneary.com.
You can RSVP for this event on Facebook for more updates here http://www.facebook.com/events/239825856087964/

1) Ten-Pin Jukebox featuring DJs Jonas and DJ Royal T playing all the rare swing, folk, psychedelic rock classics on vintage 45s: Sundays at 8pm,
September 11th – December 4th

2) Philly Minds in the Gutter (competitive league, teams must have a team average of 500+): Mondays at 6:30pm, September 12th – December 5th

3) Blue Monday Bowling (with a musical emphasis on New Order era tunes): Mondays at 9:30pm, September 12th – December 5th

4) Hipsters & Doofuses (a league started by members of local restaurants on 2nd street): Tues. at 6:30pm, September 6th – November 29th

5) Soul Bowl (competitive league, teams must have a team average of 500+): Tuesdays at 9:30pm, September 6th – November 29th

8) Beyond Thunder Bowl: Thursdays at 9:30pm, September 8th – December 8th

Registration is currently open to the public. I am still gathering what teams will be returning for the Fall Season so I can take new teams, as I find out what openings I will have in each league. If a league ends up already being full, I will put you on the wait list for that league and keep you posted as things open up.
If you are interested please send me an email with the following:
* Team Name
* Team Roster (including full names, captain, and email addresses)
* Time slot preferred.
It is usually easier for me to fulfill the requests of full teams with at least 4 team members. If you are looking to join a league as an individual, I will try my best to find you a team. Please send me some information about yourself, including a rough bowling average, etc and I will try to find you a team that matches your profile.
take care,

Wednesday, July 13th: No-Tournament at 6:30pm

Hey bowlers,

I hope all of you have a fun July 4th this weekend. Looks like we definitely have a fair amount of good weather forecast for the next few days.

Here are some North Bowl updates:
Starting on July 1st through the rest of the summer, North Bowl will be open on Friday's at noon.
North Bowl will be closed on Monday, July 4th, so Blue Monday Bowling and the King of the Hill tournament will not meet again until the following week.

This season's first No-Tap tournament will be held in a little under two weeks, on Wednesday, July 13th, 2011 at 7pm. Warm ups will start at 6:30pm and the tournament will begin promptly at 7pm.
What is a No-Tap Tournament you may ask? Well, No-Tap refers to the scoring specified for this sort of thing. For every 9 you score on your first roll, you will be scored a strike.
There is no longer a need for those tedious spare 7 or 10 pin pick ups and you will be 1 pin closer on your way to a perfect game!
In the pursuit of an even playing field, the tournament is split into two brackets based on season average (0-150 and Above 150). These are two completely separate tournaments. This tournament is open to all 6 leagues at North Bowl, so it is also a great chance to meet other bowlers, see where you stand, and maybe recruit a team mate for next season. There is a $20 buy-in and this is good for a 3 game series, with the top 5 finishers moving on to final rounds. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. If you are interested, please sign up now as the tournament will fill up quickly!
You can sign up either through email or I will have a sign up sheet available at the Front Desk. Let me know!
take care,

Marshall Kavanaugh

7/1: Locker Renewal $20

Hey bowlers,

We are renewing locker fees. It will be $20 for another 6 months. I will be collecting this over the month of July. Please pay this directly to me the next time you are at North Bowl. Please do not pay this to the other front desk staff. I understand some of you have taken a break for the summer season, but you will still need to pay for your locker before the month is over.

Also, if you have decided to not keep your locker, please let me know and you will need to turn your key in with me at the front desk. Also, please don't hesitate to email me with questions or to make other special arrangements in order to pay your locker fee. Thank you!

This means that some lockers may becoming available. For all of you who are on the wait list for a locker I will notify you as things open up!

take care,

Marshall Kavanaugh.

Start Time/End Times:

Leagues times are at 6:30pm and 9:30pm.

Any matches that go on beyond these times will be cut off at 9:30pm and 12:30pm with scoring for the match left where it is stopped.

Obviously exceptions for this would be Lane Maintenance, etc., but keep in mind your lane may be shifted as a result

Attendance/Make-up Matches

1. A team must notify the league coordinator if they are unable to attend either by email at leagues@northbowlphilly.com or phone at 215-238-BOWL.

2. If a bowler or team would like to bowl a Make-up Match for a week they will miss, they must do it during the week prior to that match.

a. This is so that the opposing team will have scores to compete against.

3. A team that is a No-Show for two weeks in a row without written notice will be removed from the league. Please understand you are making a commitment to at least 10 weeks here at North Bowl. Plan ahead and make the necessary arrangements, such as arrange for alternates if you are unable to attend.

Average/Handicap:

1. A new average is determined at the end of the night after 3 games rolled.

a. Before then that bowler’s average will be set as 120.

2. Bowlers that have bowled in a league before at North Bowl will have a Book Average for the first 3 weeks of a new season (or first 3 games if they do not bowl in those first three weeks).

a. A book average is their ending average from a previous season.

b. Bowlers who act as an alternate on a different night will have a Book Average for only the first 3 games they bowl in that league.

3. If a bowler becomes injured their average will be reset.

a. Injuries must be serious enough, to be determined by League President.

a. Exceptions may be made at the League President’s personal discretion.

Scoring:

1. Sliding pins: A pin must slide over at least one spot to become out of play.

a. Ex: A 1 pin cannot become a 5 pin.

b. Otherwise, please ask Mechanic to reset pin or to reset frame.

2. Be aware, new bowlers effect eventual scoring and match points due to their average being set at the end of the night.

3. Scores displayed on the TV monitors may not be correct. Correct scores can be attained at the end of the night at the Front Desk console.

4. A "pop-out" does not count as a legal point, bowler must reset rack for 2nd shot, or erase point from score. A "pop-out" is defined as a pin knocked over after bowling ball has already entered the gutter.

5. If any mistakes are noticed in scores please contact your league Secretary or leagues@northbowlphilly.com.

League Fees:

1. League bowlers will owe $17 per bowler per week for up to 4 bowlers

Individual Players Looking for Teams

Hey bowlers,

I have added a page that lists some bowlers that have contacted me about joining a league, but do not have a team of their own. If you are struggling to have a team of 4 each week or you need an alternate at some point during the season, you can use this as a resource to get some more bowlers on your team. Keep in mind that these bowlers will need to have bowled 6 games during the season to be used in the playoffs.

Marshall Kavanaugh.

Week 3: Book Averages are no longer in use!

Hey bowlers,

Week 3 is the last week where Book Averages are used. For returning bowlers, your average will reflect what you have bowled in the last three weeks. Good luck and hopefully the switch isn't too drastic.

You can view the most recent standing sheets for your league including your new average, by clicking your league's tab above!
